European Parliament President, Martin Schulz, receives the International Charlemagne Prize in Aachen, 14 May 2015
Mr. Schulz’s acceptance speech can be found here.
Possible next steps, in the spirit of Charlemagne:
a. Mr. Schulz adds the title “Holy Roman Emperor” to his existing one “President of the European Parliament”.
b. The European Parliament meets for one week per month in Aachen, to be inspired by Charlemagne’s spirit (before any objections note that Aachen is in Germany, is closer to Brussels than Strasbourg and there is a fast train link between Aachen and Brussels).
c. Charlemagne is brought back from the dead, through a high-tech cloning procedure, to save the EU.
Yes, we are joking in terms of (a) to (c) above, but you get the spirit!
