It is most worrisome to witness a further step towards the abyss being taken in the Middle East. The rogue regime of Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahou continues to play God and to strike on enemies real and imaginary with utter force and impunity, leaving dead bodies, destruction, instability and lawlessness on its way. We offer deep condolences for the innocent victims that are never taken seriously into account and we are praying that the death and destruction will not increase further with more attacks or leaking of nuclear material into the atmosphere, water and soil.

On the bigger picture, unfortunately something like this was expected after the latest IAEA resolution that Iran was in breach of uranium enrichment rules. If only Israel and the West reacted so promptly to all UN resolutions and international court orders about the genocidal acts taking place daily in Gaza. Implementation of international law, if such a preposterous argument is made in this case to justify the Israeli strikes, cannot be left to the whims of a key violator of international law. There is full hypocrisy, double standards and extreme self-righteousness at play here, once again. Of course, the course of action after the IAEA findings should have been debated at the UN Security Council, which should take a stance for peace and stability even at this late stage.

Hopefully, Iran will prove the wiser party to this dispute and will not escalate beyond proportional self-defence, to avoid a major new war in the region and perhaps the world. Moreover, let Iran and powers of reason from around the world pursue alternative ways of conflict resolution, using diplomacy but also sanctions against the Israeli regime that wants to bomb everybody to submission, losing any moral ground that legitimate concerns about the security of Israel would normally give it. Let’s see what all of us can do, individually and collectively, to help efficiently reduce the heat of the still developing situation, to allow for the protection of all people concerned, without exception, while disarming and bringing to justice criminally irresponsible leaderships.
