Star Trek hero Dr Spock, in real life Leonard Nemoy, has left for other galaxies, this time for good. The actor died of chronic pulmonary disease in Los Angeles on 27 February 2015, at the age of 83. He starred in the original Star Trek series in the mid-1960s, as well as in several movies, including the recent two Star Trek revivals.
The half-human half-Vulkan Dr Spock complemented, with his characteristic rational attitude and deep spirituality, the hot-headed and irreverent, 100% human Captain Kirk (William Shatner). The duo had an unlikely but very strong bond of mutual respect and friendship, on screen and outside. Together they kept on course the starship Enterprise, facing off alien challenges while dealing with the eternal issues of human society.

Although identified with Star Trek, in his characteristic hairstyle and pointy ears, Leonard Nimoy played in other movies too, directed a couple, and doubled in poetry, photography and music. Devote Trekkies and other sci-fi fans, we will always keep his image and character on our minds, together with his signature greeting: “Live long and prosper!”.
